Cleaning and Repair - The most common reasons why you would need to maintain or replace sewer and drain:
Elmhurst Root Intrusion - Old sewer pipes are made with a clay material which consists of a spigot and a hub (Male & Female) Over time the weight of the soil pushes down on the spigot and hub joint causing the connection to crack. This happens very easily because cement is used in connecting the spigot and hub. The crack allows the sewer water to enter the surrounding soil of the pipe. Over time roots from trees and bushes seek out the natural fertilizer, encompass the pipe, and enter the pipe. Within a few years, the continuous leaking of sewer water will wash out the soil under the pipe causing the pipe to sag and break further.
Sagging Sewer Pipe - Sagging sewer pipes is a condition of the pipes developing a belly, similar to an old horse who over time back begins to sag due to old age. In a sagging sewer pipe as sewage and paper pass through this low point and starts to collect eventually the sewage will not pass through. This is commonly known as a Soft Plug.
Soft Plug - In reference to sewer piping, a soft plug is difficult to clean or rod because when you pull out the rod, or snake drain as some people call it, a lot of the debris makes its way back to the low point of the pipe. At very best the rodding will only last a short time and in this case, it will be better to perform a hydro jetting or replace the sagging pipe. Hydro jetting is basically a pressure washer for the inside of your sewer pipe. This phenomenon can also happen indoors, under the basement floor affecting the 4" cast iron drainpipe.
Grease Blockage - Grease also known as Soft Plugs occur in restaurants. This happens most often when the grease trap is not maintained. This could also happen in homes where grease is poured down the kitchen drain.
Pipe Sheering - Pipe Sheering occurs over time when the weight of the soil causes too much pressure on the 4-inch waste line exiting the foundation wall. This extreme pressure causes the pipe to break or sheer off.
